What Sets Our Practice Apart

Our reputation as a reliable resource for dentists in our community is due to the success we’ve achieved as part of intricate treatment plans. Dr. Heinzelmann is one of an exclusive number of practitioners that have completed two specialty degree programs. With this extensive training, he is uniquely qualified in areas ranging from periodontal therapy, osseous and gingival grafting, dental implant placement, and evaluation of occlusal complications.

He constantly improves his knowledge and technique, actively participating in associations and study clubs including the American Academy of Periodontology, American Dental Association, Northern District Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, Georgia Society of Periodontology, Northside Dental Study Club and the Hinman Dental Society.

Cone Beam CT scanners and 3D-guided implant planning at our Roswell office. Our Roswell office is equipped state-of-the-art technology, including an on-site Cone Beam CT machine. This gives Dr. Heinzelmann the high-definition images he needs to confirm or provide an accurate diagnosis. The three-dimensional view created by CBCT scans, along with our doctor’s clinical expertise, enhance the precision and safety of implant placement procedures.

The 3-D CAT scan is used for diagnosis in a majority of cases for more reasons than the way it improves the accuracy of implant visualization and treatment planning. It often uncovers potential problems that could lower a therapy’s potential for success. These issues include failing root canals and the probability of re-treatment success, sinus perforations, sinus pathology, cracked teeth, endodontically-involved teeth, restoration complications due to tilted teeth, and occlusal evaluation.  The scan also shows other potential surgical complications such as nerve and sinus membrane positioning, ridge width, impacted teeth, cysts, resorption, and bone density, to name a few.

We use an outside treatment planning team from 3-D Diagnostics to analyze our scans and consult on different treatment options. Their lab fabricates a complete surgical guide with both implant depth and positioning control. This is the most accurate tool for precise implant placement available today. If there is enough attached gingiva present, many implants can be placed flaplessly. This system cannot be beat when absolute parallelism is necessary when placing multiple implants.

This technique involves a “virtual surgery” on the computer model.  Implant placement is dictated by the “crown down concept.”  This means that the size and shape of the crowns are designed first, and then the implants are designed to fit directly under each crown for maximum fit and restorability.

While most have yet to implement this technology, we have been using this technique successfully for over a decade, and it has allowed us to do cases that other offices have turned down.
